Chitrangada Singh Stars In PETA & Joker Ad Against Testing Cosmetics on Animals

Bollywood actor and star of the film Joker, which will be released this Friday, 31 August 2012, Chitrangda Singh appears in a striking new joint ad for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and Joker. The ad captures her “bleeding” after an alien uses a syringe-like mascara wand on her eye, and the caption reads, “What If Aliens Tested on Humans? Ban Cosmetics Testing on Animals!”

The point is that testing cosmetics on animals is harmful and deadly to the animals themselves and also bad science – and the government should ban it. This joint initiative between PETA and Joker also got a new name – PETAA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Aliens and Animals).

“I think it’s a good idea for the consumer to be aware because then you can decide to boycott or not, support or not, certain companies which are still testing on animals”, says Singh.

The European Union’s phased-in ban on the testing of cosmetics and their ingredients on animals is scheduled to take full effect in 2013. PETA is calling on the Indian government to base its ban on the EU model. More than 1,000 companies around the world have banned all animal tests, but many companies still choose to subject animals to painful tests in which substances are smeared on their skin, sprayed in their faces or forced down their throats. Because of the vast physiological differences between humans and the animals used in these tests, the results are often misleading.
